Shocking, not really. This is not new news. We have been bouncing from 4th to 5th, 5th to 4th ect. for years. As a matter a fact there has been 2 independant studies 5 years apart that have ranked Ny, and therefore all of it’s counties, near the bottom of the Economic Freedom Index. Translation- we are and have been living in economic oppression in most of this state including here. Our property taxes skyrocketed throught the Thomas administration years. Only since Edwards was elected 4 years did ago did the brakes get put on. Edwards campaigned championing property tax relief then and we feel has done all he can since. What has stood in his way – none other than the Legislature which is under the same control it has been for several years. They ie. Ahlstrom, Cornell, and others, have done everything to stand in the way of and obstruct success in this area. They have made a priority of everything except property tax reform and their actions prove it. County revenue reductions with respect to sales tax, energy tax, and gasoline tax, have all stripped monies away from the possibility of any substantial property tax reductions. Now Mr Cornell challenging Edwards has the gall to insult and attack Edwards as if it’s his failure!
